Re widowhood and mourning: in this period, widowhood was for many women the first time that they had any liberty or any control over their lives. It's not surprising that some of them responded by enjoying their freedom. Sure, it's socially correct to observe the customs of mourning, but imagine how difficult that would be if you weren't mourning, but rather celebrating the end of an intolerable marriage, which would have been true for many women.
